Counseling Intensives

This isn't a typical counseling hour, and it's not meant to be

I've spent 15 years working with grief and life transitions, and here's what I know: some things just don’t fit into an hour. You spend the session finally getting underneath something, and then you have to pack it back up and carry it out the door because time's up. That's not a knock on weekly therapy because I know it works, for what it's built for. But some work needs more room, not increments of time within an hour.

The Deep Work Session is my answer to that. It's an extended, one-on-one counseling intensive. It’s not a longer regular session or a workshop. It's real work, just in a different container.

What an Intensive Format Is

This is structured differently than standard weekly counseling appointments. Rather than meeting for an hour once a week, twice a week or once a month, we set aside a single extended block of time to focus deeply on the concern that brought you in.

Length. A single Deep Work Session covers what might otherwise take several weeks of standard sessions to build toward. We're not rushing that process, we're simply removing the week-long gaps between sessions so the work can unfold in one continuous sitting.

Pacing. Even though the session is long, it isn't one unbroken block of intensive work. Our time together is structured into segments with built-in pauses along with points to rest, regroup, and check in with how you're doing. The length works for you rather than becoming overwhelming. And we’re not just talking. This time allows for more somatic work. Keep reading for more information on what to expect in these three and a half hour blocks of time.

Intensity. Because we're not stopping and restarting each week, the work tends to go deeper faster. Some people find this clarifying and efficient; others find that concentrated emotional work in one sitting is more intense than they expected. Both reactions are normal, and part of my role is to help you pace yourself through it. This includes stopping early if that's what you need.

Who This Is For

The Deep Work Session tends to be a good fit if:

  • You've been in weekly therapy and feel like you keep circling the same ground without traction

  • You're carrying a loss or trauma (or a few) that feels bigger than the usual weekly rhythm can hold

  • You're facing a specific transition, loss, or decision point and want concentrated time to work through it

  • You'd rather do one significant session than commit to months of weekly appointments

  • You want dedicated time to prepare for or process something time-sensitive before it compounds (a death, a diagnosis, an anticipatory loss, an anniversary, a family conversation)

  • You don't have months of weekly sessions in you right now, but you do have a day

  • You want focused, expert support from someone who specializes in exactly this

This isn't the right fit if you're currently in crisis or need active safety planning, that kind of support needs a different level of care, and I'm happy to help you find it.

What to Expect

Before: You'll complete an intake questionnaire and a brief pre-session consult so we can shape the session around what you actually need.

During: We'll open with grounding and a shared sense of what we're working toward, move through the core work in paced segments combining conversation with somatic experiences such as brainspotting, restorative yoga, yoga nidra, and guided meditation based on what we both decide could be an asset for you during this time. Breaks are built in, and we’ll close with time to integrate what came up before you head back out into your day.

After: Within the first 24 hours after your session, I will provide you with a personalized written summary and care plan so you leave with something concrete. If you want a follow-up of an hour long appointment or another intensive session, either will be available to you at a reduced integration rate for the first 30 days after your session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this instead of regular one hour counseling appointments? Not necessarily. Some clients use a Deep Work Session as a one-time reset; others pair it with ongoing hour long appointments. We can talk through what makes sense for you.

What if it's too much in one sitting? That's exactly what the built-in pacing and breaks are designed for. You're never obligated to push through. We can slow down, pause, or stop at any point.

How do I know if I'm ready for this? If you're unsure, the pre-session consult is a low-pressure way to find out together before you commit.

Why not just book a few regular sessions instead? I understand this question well, so let me answer it directly.

Three separate hourly sessions and one three and a half hour block aren't the same thing, even though the math looks similar. In a regular session, some of that hour goes to warming back up, remembering where we left off and re-establishing that we're safe to go there again. In an extended session, you pay that cost once, not three times. That alone buys you more real depth than the clock time suggests.

But it's more than that. A standard hour is built to open something up and close it back down before you walk out the door and go pick up your kids or head back to work or back into the rest of your daily life. That structure is useful and it's how weekly therapy is supposed to work. But it also means we can only go so far in before we have to turn around. A Deep Work Session doesn't have that constraint. We can go all the way in and actually stay there, because you have the room to.

And the fee isn't just for the hours in the room. It covers the intake work I do beforehand, the preparation that goes into tailoring the session to you, and the written summary and care plan you leave with. None of which happens in a standard appointment.

So it's not "three hours for the price of one." It's a different kind of session, built to do something a standard hour structurally can't.

I think some work deserves more than an hour at a time when the moment calls for it. My goal is for you to walk out steady, with something real to carry forward, having not just talked about it (which absolutely helps), but having had time to actually move through it.

Pre Marital Counseling 5 Week Series

This is not your average pre-marital counseling!

This is a self-designed program to assist couples in learning to communicate with one another. Based on years of working with couples, I’m convinced that 95% of couple troubles can be traced back to communication differences.

This series is unique. It is secular. It is open to ANY couple planning for, or thinking about, marriage. Communication issues don’t discriminate due to age, gender, ethnicity, or who you love. Neither do I. :)

This workshop is designed to take place over five weeks in a row. The first four weeks we meet for two hours and the last week is a one hour wrap up.

I’m biased, but I believe every couple deserves to add a good couples counseling series to their wedding planning.  My goal is for you to have tools that you can draw upon throughout your marriage.

Before you jump in, you are welcome to come meet me for a half hour free consult.  Simply contact me to schedule.
